Mt Barker Football Club News

Vale Dennis Atkinson

It is with sadness the Mount Barker Football Club says farewell to former Barkeroo Dennis “Acko” Atkinson. Dennis passed away earlier this week after a long battle with illness. “Acko” was a member of the Roos 1982 Premiership team and was “clearly” adjudged as best on ground (B.O.G.) in that final played at Lobethal Oval against Onkas.  “Acko” also played in the 1983 Reserve Grade Grand Final for the Barkeroos and again B.O.G.  Our thoughts go out to Dennis’s Family & Friends.

High Fife

Despite this high flying mark from Samuel Pfeiffer, the Roos weren’t able to overcome Finals nemesis, the Uraidla Demons in their 1st Semi Final clash at Hahndorf Oval this afternoon. The Barkeroos had the majority of play in their forward 50.  Having had 18 scoring shots to 15; however the demons were more accurate in front of goal, running out winners 10.5 (65) to the Roos 5.13 (43).

Roos Tame Lions

The mighty Roos defeated Torrens Valley Lions at Blackwood on Sunday to advance to the 1st Semi Final this Sunday at Hahndorf Oval. (Pictured) Samuel PFEIFFER had the better of Lions goal-kicker John BORAS. PFEIFFER kept BORAS goal-less and played a huge part in the Roos victory. The Roos will next face Uraidla. Congrats also to the Mini Colts who also advance with a win over Mt Lofty. The Junior Colts suffered a big loss and the Reserves performed at a higher level and went down by 3 goals.  More Seniors Roos action to follow.

Eckermann………..Roo Beauty

Adam Eckermann makes a spectacular marking attempt at Balhannah Oval this afternoon. We are going to put it down as a great mark, though despite his amazing effort, Eckermann was awarded a “Free kick” from this contest.   The Senior Barkeroos ran out winners, 13.11 (89) to Onka Valley 12.10 (82). Mount Barker football club will have 4 teams representing in the finals next Sunday at Blackwood. The A’s, Junior Colts and Mini Colts were assured of finals; and by a twist of fate the Reserves have also kept their place in the five. Well done and good luck next weekend.
